Perhaps there is/was a famous or important person in your area who was connected to a particular event in history –perhaps they were living in a big house or were commemorated by a plaque or a statue. Many of the schools found examples of such local heroes (hammer- thrower, aviator, volunteers, soldiers etc.) It’s worth thinking about the criteria for hero status: for some children their local hero is a great granny who rode a bicycle or baked lovely bread.
